I knew that my TAXI project would eventually find my way to Asia — and in January 2025 it was finally that time. Thanks to the wonderful cooperation with the Singapore taxi union and the major taxi operator Comfort DelGro, I was able to continue my project in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
As soon as I arrived in Singapore, I was fascinated by the unique mix of tradition and modernity. Between futuristic skyscrapers, green oases and lively districts such as Chinatown or Little India, an almost inexhaustible repertoire of motifs opened up to me. It was particularly exciting to learn about taxi drivers and hear their stories. Many of them were surprised that someone was showing so much interest in their everyday life — but as soon as they realized that I really wanted to understand their perspectives, they opened up even more.
For my recordings, I often walk around the city for hours, always ready to capture with my camera those short, intense moments that have already given me so much inspiration with taxis around the world.
The collaboration with the Singapore taxi union and Comfort DelGro was also an asset. I was able to gain deep insights into the challenges, but also the pride of their everyday working life. I quickly realized that taxi drivers in Singapore are much more than just chauffeurs: They are sources of information, pastors and ambassadors for their city in one. This role is also reflected in the recordings: in the faces behind the wheel, the little talismans on the dashboard.
When I look back on my time in Singapore, I not only see the growing skyline or the legendary cleanliness of the roads, but above all the encounters with people who make every trip special. MeinTaxi project has added another formative chapter here. Now I'm looking forward to organizing and sharing these impressions with all of you. Because that is exactly what I am interested in.
